Math And Numbers

January 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

I have a thing for numbers and I honestly don’t know why. Stuff like averages, stats and graphs drive me nuts in a good way. As far as I can remember I’ve always been like that. Anytime there is something about averages in the sports page I check it, when companies report their earnings I am on it. If there is a graph or a pie chart anywhere close to me you can bet I will take a look at it. Why do numbers attract me?, I would like to know the answer to that question myself because I just don’t know why that is and probably will never know but if I ever find the answer to that you can be sure you will be the first to know.

Compare my thing for numbers to my not so thing with math, I don’t like math. Never have and probably never will. The times I took math in school were only because I had to take it but if it had been up to me I wouldn’t have taken it. I was never bad at it, I passed what I had to pass in order to satisfy curricular requirements and that was it. This is one of my sayings now, ” I hate math but I like numbers”. What is behind my hate for math?, again I wish I knew and if I ever find the reason I’ll let you know. For the record, I seem to get along fine with reading and writing but as you now know, not with that arithmetic.

Welcome to the new investing report. In the old days this posts used to go by the name Investing 101 but no longer. From now on these posts will be known simply as 403-B/DCP. Check bellow and you will see exactly how much I am starting the year with. Every paycheck $50 dollars are deducted and invested in my 403-B and once a month less than $20 is deducted and invested in my Defined Contribution Plan or DCP for short. The difference between the two is that the 403-B is voluntary and the DCP is mandatory. The money is then invested in Mutual Funds that I can choose but there are no single stocks to invest in. Here is hoping that this new year brings a bunch of gains and few if any losses, hey a guy can dream right?.
