My Own Business: Update

June 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Business

If you remember about a month ago I wrote about wanting to be my own boss and my business plans to make that happen, you can read that post here. In that post I set a launch date of July 1st 2008 but as the date gets closer and closer there is a 50/50 chance that it won’t happen as planned.

It is not like I have been dragging my feet, not at all. On one of my ventures I have 90% of the work finished and that 10% is the one that is killing me. On venture number two the total work done is barely 5% which is the most important part of the plan but I need help with the other 95% so you can see that I am in a lot of trouble with that one.

The problem is that there is just some aspects of the whole thing that I am just not qualified to do, I could try but I’d rather not. I have been searching for help but so far I haven’t been able to find any. If I were to find that help that would put me back on track and on schedule. I am not giving up, there are 12 more days to go this month so I still have time but whatever happens you’ll be the first to know.

Another one of those up and down weeks that I just don’t enjoy. I prefer the up and up and up kind of weeks, I am sure you agree with me. I was up $9.03 for the week and that is a lot better than being down. Hopefully this week will be a lot better than last. I am keeping my eye on Marvel (MVL) and on Countrywide (CFC), they were in the news so we’ll see what happens.

Scottrade Account (11)

I had no new trades last week.

My investments look like this now,  2 JPMorgan (JPM) shares, 8 Visa (V) shares, 10 Ford (F) shares, 10 Marvel (MVL) shares and 20 Countrywide (CFC) shares.

I start this week with a total account value of $1,280.22

What happened?, we were moving along quite nicely and then this. After you check the numbers below you will understand my question. My account was down a bunch but that is the name of the game as we all know. It is ok, I have nothing but time when it comes to these particular investments. No money was taken out of my paycheck for my 403-B and this time and I know why, it was a “deduction holiday”, whatever that means. On to the numbers.

Buy One And Get One Free

June 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Investing

I first read this story this past Monday and I thought it was quite an investing opportunity. Here is the deal, a San Diego developer is so hard up for customers that he is offering potential home buyers a buy one get one free deal.

I am sure you are asking yourself the same question that I asked myself when I first read the article, what’s the catch?. Here it is, if you buy a $1.6 million luxury estate in the city of Escondido north of San Diego County then he’ll give away a row home valued at $400,000 dollars. The offer was going to run for two weeks in may but then it was extended though June.

So if you have a couple of million laying around then buy yourself the estate and rent the row house and invest that money and soon enough you’ll have enough for another one, it’s a win win situation if you ask me. I was going to buy one myself but I am short $1,599.000 dollars. If you end up buying one don’t forget about my finders fee which is only 5% of the total, wink wink.

I am going to stop mentioning roller coasters on my posts because this time around if you can see the graph you can see exactly the roller coaster effect. The week started on the right foot but by the time Friday came around I ended up losing $62.24 just on that one day. That was the day the day the market was down almost 400 points. For the week I ended up losing $47.40, hopefully this week will be a lot better than last.
