Volume, Part 2

August 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Filed in Investing

On my last post I wrote about volume and how good or bad it can be to your bottom line and sanity. That post was supposed to be a one time post but after seeing how good volume worked for me on Thursday I just had to go for part 2 and here it is for your reading enjoyment.

On Thursday the market was up more than 200 points and as a result all of my investments were up including my 70 Bank of Greece (NBG) shares. The stock was up $0.44 cents, multiply by 70 and we get a nice gain of $30.80 for the day and that my friends was volume in action.

As we can see volume is great if you catch the wave at the right time but it can be bad if you catch it at the wrong time and that as we know is something we have to live with and get used to.

Volume

If you have been following this blog from the beginning then you know that I am a beginner when it comes to investing. I have learned some stuff along the way of course but the one thing that I’ve learned so far that really makes a difference when it comes to making some moola is the following.

Volume, volume, volume, no I don’t mean cranking your iPod all the way up, nope. When I say volume I simply mean how many shares you own equals how much money you make or lose. I completely didn’t see this when I first started trading but then again I was a newbie. When I first started I bought 8 shares here, 10 shares there and as a result my volume wasn’t that big and my results weren’t either. That is why with the most recent trade I made I bought 70 shares of National Bank of Greece SA (NBG) and you know what, volume sure works. I have lost money with this stock and thanks to volume it has been a lot.

Now we know how those Quadrillionaires make all that money, volume. If my 8 shares are up $0.50 cents I make $4.00 dollars now if you have 1,000 shares then you just made $500 dollars thanks to volume. Now just imagine how much money someone with 100,000 thousand or 1,000.000 million shares is going to make or lose with that $0.50 cent increase, boggles the mind, doesn’t it?.

The beginning of a new week is here and hopefully things will be a lot better than last. My account was down $21.98 last week and that wasn’t news to me because losing money seems to be what’s in right now, for me at least. What will be news is when I start to make some money, hopefully that will be this week.

I can feel my 16 day weekend coming to and end and it’s affecting me in ways I can’t explain. What does that have to do with this blog?, absolutely nothing. August is almost over and with that I bring you the latest 403-B/DCP report, brought to you by absolutely nobody but me. I continue my losing ways this month and like I have said before, there is nothing I can do about it and that is fine. Lets check them numbers and as usual if you see any obvious adding or subtracting mistakes don’t forget to let me know. Such things happen as we all know.

I am hoping that this week will be a very productive one for me and you as well. Last week things didn’t go as planned and as a result my account was down $7.13 and that is not as bad as some other times, still I’d much rather make money than lose money. My weekly plan is really easy, market goes up everyday and I make money everyday. Never goes as planned but maybe someday soon it will.
